Florence Road Residents Group

About us

Florence Road Residents Group (FRRG) initially developed as a WhatsApp group in 2019 and formalised as a constituted community group in 2021 as a positive response to the pandemic to support residents on the street. Our key aims are to promote, protect and enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for all those who live along Florence Road, from New Cross Road to Lewisham Way. Many residents have been affected by poor physical and mental health, financial difficulties and other wider issues – the aim of the group is to support their wellbeing.

Florence Road in New Cross is a residential street but also a busy ‘B’ road with high traffic/pollution levels. Florence Road is the only two-way cut through road in the area that connects two heavily congested A-roads. Homes on the street are classed as being in 'Very High Pollution'.

FRRG are delighted to have been successful in our application for a Breathe London node. The data from the node will help us to determine pollution levels and when they are at their highest. This will provide important evidence to help the FRRG to campaign and fundraise for mitigation measures to help to protect both residents and passers-by from exposure to the dangerously high pollution levels. The project will also further strengthen community relationships, increase understanding of how the area is affected by air pollution and climate change, and help to promote health improvements.
