Brixton LEYF - Blog!
One of our Round Two Breathe London Community Partners, Brixton LEYF has launched a weekly blog!
Who are Brixton LEYF? London Early Years Foundation Brixton (LEYF) is a chain of nurseries across the capital. They will be installing their Breathe London Node at LEYF Brixton, which is situated at Brixton Recreation Centre (Brixton Rec) in the heart of Brixton. Read more here.
Sacha and Louise, the project leads at Brixton LEYF Breathe London community group, have started a regular blog post to share news and insights from their node. The blog is called: AirAware air quality: News, articles and analysis of air quality data from the Breathe London air quality monitoring node located at LEYF Nursery, Brixton.
The team at LEYF Brixton take their readers through thematic topics, including understanding the basics of air pollution…..
“When we talk about air quality, we are usually talking about a few different pollutants that are present in the air. These include nitrogen dioxide (NO2, which is mainly produced by road traffic and energy production), ozone (when ozone is present at altitude it screens ultraviolet light from the sun which is beneficial, but at ground level it is toxic), and particulates”
…..to understanding what’s happening across London in the air pollution agenda.
“You may not know, but all London boroughs have an air quality action plan (AQAP). We thought we’d take a look at some recent ones, particularly to see which boroughs are keeping up with new World Health Organisation targets.”
Through this blog, Sacha and Louise are actively keeping their local community up to date on their node and giving local people the opportunity to become further engaged on matters that affect their health!
Well done team Brixton LEYF, we can’t wait to read the next blog post!
